About Jamshedpur
Jamshedpur, also known as the Steel City or Tatanagar, is India's first cosmopolitan and planned industrial town. The city was founded by Late Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata and is located in the East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. The surrounding areas of Jamshedpur are rich in minerals, including iron ore, coal, manganese, bauxite, kaolin, uranium, etc. Jamshedpur is situated at a distance of about 250 km and 131 km from Kolkata and Ranchi, respectively and very well connected to metropolitan cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai by rail. The nearest air destinations to Jamshedpur are Kolkata (International Airport) and Ranchi (Domestic Airport). In the third/fourth week of January, the city has pleasant weather with an average temperature during day in the range of 15- 20oC. Tata Steel established in 1907 has created significant landmark events in the history of corporate India. Starting from the discovery of iron ore mines to commissioning of the steel plant, from a pioneer to one of the world’s most diversified steel producers- the company has numerous milestone events to boast.
Jamshedpur, besides being an industrial hub in eastern India, is a popular tourist destination surrounded by the Dalma Hills, Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers. The beauty of Dalma Hills is represented by the exotic ranges located at height 3000 ft above sea level, dense forests, vast reserve of rare and endangered species in wildlife sanctuary like wild elephants barking deer, leopards, sloth bears, porcupines, birds and so on. The emerald green Jubilee Park, expanded over 225 acres is adorned with flower beds, gardens and illuminated fountains. The lush green gardens displays varieties of roses of different colors and sizes. The attractive feature of Jubilee Park is the colorful fountains, lake, zoological park and laser show. The Centre of Excellence and Xavier Labor Relations Institute (XLRI), one of the prestigious business management institutes in Jamshedpur are located in the proximity of Jubilee Park. Centre of Excellence is a complex with multifaceted surroundings enclosing many professional and specialized organizations. The building structure is adorable with its architectural style and beauty. Presently this centre houses the Archives of Tata Steel, a worthy collection of origin and evolution of one of the largest industries in the world.
